Karnataka increases housing quota for minorities from 10% to 15%

NEW DELHI: The Karnataka cabinet on Thursday approved an increase in the reservation for minorities under various state-run housing schemes, raising the quota from 10% to 15%.Law and parliamentary affairs minister H K Patil, addressing the media after the cabinet meeting, said the decision was based on the disproportionately high number of homeless individuals among minority communities in both urban and rural areas.“Under various housing schemes being implemented by the Housing Department across the state, it has been decided to enhance the reservation for minorities from 10 per cent to 15 per cent,” Patil announced. The move is aimed at providing greater access to affordable housing for minority groups, ensuring better inclusion in government welfare programmes.
