Bomb scare: Lufthansa explains why Germany-Hyderabad flight returned mid-air; cites ‘abundance of caution’ | India News

NEW DELHI: Lufthansa on Monday issued a statement after its flight from Frankfurt to Hyderabad was forced to return to its origin airport on Sunday following a bomb threat.Flight LH752, operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, departed Frankfurt at 14:29 hours (delayed from its scheduled 13:05 departure) and was expected to land in Hyderabad at 01:20 hours on Monday. However, the flight was turned around while still in international airspace after authorities were alerted to the threat.While Lufthansa initially stated they “did not receive permission to land” in Hyderabad, an official from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport confirmed that the diversion was due to a bomb threat received while the aircraft was outside Indian airspace.“A bomb threat email targeting Lufthansa flight LH 752 was received at the Hyderabad airport at 18:01 pm on 15 June, 2025. Bomb threat assessment committee was formed and all procedures were followed as per SOP. In the interest of safety, the airline was advised to divert back to the origin or the nearest suitable airport,” Lufthansa Airline spokesperson said in a statement.“Out of an abundance of caution, Lufthansa flight LH752 from Frankfurt to Hyderabad returned to its point of departure after authorities were made aware of a bomb threat posted on social media. The safety of our passengers and crew is Lufthansa’s highest priority. Affected passengers were provided with accommodation in Frankfurt and will be continuing their journey to Hyderabad today,” it added.The airline has arranged accommodation for affected passengers in Frankfurt, who will resume their journey to Hyderabad on Monday.This incident follows a similar security concern in June when an Air India flight (AI 379) from Phuket to Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing in Phuket after receiving a bomb threat.
